Simply Mediais looking for a dynamic, persuasive and
commercially-minded Business Development Manager - to generate new
business and drive sales across our Mail-Order/Print, Trade,
Digital and Publishing divisions. As this is, primarily, a
sales-oriented role, the successful candidate will perform a
vitally important function across the entire
business - and will be central to future growth.
The role is suitable for someone looking for a challenging and
varied position.
One day they could be presenting a 'white-label' solution (for our
mail-order
catalogue or online businesses) to a major publisher, the next day
they could
be pitching our portfolio of 500+ Films & TV programmes to the
Buying team
of a large retailer or a small, specialist store. Or,
alternatively, they could
be meeting a content provider alongside specialists within our
Publishing team.
As they learn more about the business, further opportunities will
become
apparent - the Business Development Manager should be able to spot
those
opportunities and exploit them wherever possible, working closely
with the
Heads of each department.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have a keen interest in
Film and
TV and have some knowledge or experience of the home entertainment
industry
(DVDs, CDs, Digital Downloads etc). Although a genuine curiosity
about the
industry and the ability to absorb information, learn quickly and
truly
understand the company's products and services, are pre-requisites.
Similarly,
the successful candidate should understand and have professional
experience of
both print and online media - and be comfortable discussing new and
innovative
areas of development. They should have at least 2-3 years
experience in a
comparable sales/business development environment - or possess the
confidence,
knowledge and enthusiasm to further their career in this field.

The following table of 'Example Clients' indicates the types

Business Development Manager will be approaching. While we have
existing
relationships with many of the following companies, there are many
others we
should be working with. These will be both big and small (from

Newspapers or film studios, to specialist retailers, online and
offline) - so,
the successful candidate will be comfortable communicating at all
levels.

Company Introduction
Simply Mediais a broad-based media company, specialising in
Film
& Video Production, Creative Services, Publishing and
Distribution.
Our in-house Production facility makes factual programmes and
documentaries, mainly for the Discovery, History and UKTV
channels (amongst other similar broadcasters in the UK and North
America). In
the past, we've also operated several successful Shopping Channels
on the BSkyB platform - and now provide commercial video production
services to London's ad agencies, or direct to our corporate
clients (including Boots plc, Smirnoff and EDF Energy).
Simply Media's core Distribution division has operated in the
home
entertainment sector for nearly 25 years (in various incarnations)
-
distributing a vast range of licenced and 3rd party films and TV
programmes,
through our 200+ Trade Retail clients (ie Amazon,
Play.com, HMV and WHSmith etc) and
our own direct-to-consumer (DTC) retail businesses. Currently, our
consumer
marketing activity includes extensive national press advertising, a
burgeoning
online business and a portfolio of market-leading mail-order
catalogues - distributed
to more than 300k households each month, under our own brands and
on behalf of
other companies (such as The Guardian
andTelegraph).
Over the last quarter century, we've sold nearly 100
million DVDs (and other media formats) in the UK alone - and
we're now in the process of launching in to the digital
download and streaming media market.
On the Publishing side, the Simply Media label currently
licences, manufactures and distributes 500+ titles on behalf of a
wide variety of content owners and producers (including the BBC,
ITV Global and Universal, as well as many other
smaller and more specialised studios). We have a strong
track-record in British
heritage, classic films, television series and special interest
programmes
(particularly history, aviation and military titles). However, we
are now
actively seeking to broaden our reach to encompass a number of
other genres.
Recent hit releases include: Our Friends in the North, Grand
Designs, Ken Burn's acclaimed Jazz, War and Civil War series and
The Alan Clark Diaries. We also
originally released one of the biggest-selling sport related DVDs
of the last
decade(The Ashes: 2005).
Additional, Simply Mediais currently managed by its majority
shareholder and
Chairman, Mike Luckwell. A key figure in the media industry over
the last 50
years, Mike founded the Moving Picture
Company in 1970, was MD of Carlton
Communications in the early 1980s and went on to become the
biggest
investor in Martin Sorrell's global advertising group,WPP (owners
of Saatchi & Saatchi,
Ogilvy and J Walter Thompson). He has also invested in and
served on the board of a diverse range of companies - from leisure
providers, Riverside and Espree, to children's TV and film company,
HIT Entertainment (owner of Thomas the Tank Engine, Bob the Builder
and Barney), amongst many others. Since 2006, he has been a
major
investor in renowned media investment group, Ingenious Media Active
Capital - serving as its Chairman since 2008.
Mike was also one of the founders of the Advertising Producers
Association, the Independent Programme Producers Association (now
PACT) and the Television Advertising Awards. And, in 2004, he
set-up UK Screen, the main trade association representing the
interests of the UK's film and TV service industries.
